Pediatric Simulation at the Point of Care: Multi-Day Instructor Workshop for Simulation Center (9/26-9/28/17)

Date & Location
Tuesday, September 26, 2017 8:00 AM - Thursday, September 28, 2017 4:00 PM   3 Blackfan Circle, Center for Life Science, Boston, MA

This comprehensive and interactive three-day course provides interdisciplinary instructional training in pediatric simulation and debriefing for novice through expert faculty and covers major aspects of hospital-based and in-situ/point-of-care high-fidelity pediatric simulation.

It builds from the ground up beginning with practical aspects of adult learning theory applied to simulation-based education in order to provide a framework for simulation as a robust teaching tool. All material presented on adult learning theory is derived from leaders in the field including David Kolb, Malcolm Knowles and Donald Schon. It provides participants with an introduction to Crisis Resource Management and teamwork among interdisciplinary teams modeled after the aviation industry’s Crew Resource Management.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the current Zone curriculum process used in SIMPeds as a mechanism to teach clinical skills, algorithms and team training
  2. Demonstrate the elements of teamwork in a crisis situation
  3. Describe the key steps of a structured debrief
  4. Create, run and debrief a scenario
