Date & Location
Wednesday, August 10, 2022, 5:00 PM - Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 6:30 PM

Overview

Acute knee injuries including ACL tears commonly affect youth and young adult athletes.  This paired webinar series will allow healthcare providers across disciplines to review approaches to evaluation of these injuries and strategies for their management.

Course Format

"Pediatric Knee Injuries" is a paired webinar series intending to provide breadth and depth in discussing acute knee injuries in children and adolescents with a particular emphasis on the presentation, management, and rehabilitation of patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears.  The primary goal is to provide healthcare providers across disciplines with a comprehensive review of best practices.

Part I: "What Not to Miss During Initial Evaluation and Management" will emphasize a systematic approach to the history, physical, and diagnostic imaging of a youth patient with an acute knee contact or non-contact injury and will introduce considerations surrounding ACL tears.

Part II: "ACL Surgery, Psychological Aspects of Recovery, and Principles of ACL Rehabilitation" is a corollary webinar that will further discuss ACL tears including surgical management, psychological care, and rehabilitation standards specific to these patients.

The format of each webinar will include a live introduction, a sequence of pre-recorded lectures by the presenters, and a live moderated discussion including interactive Q&A from the audience.

Register for this two-part series by clicking the registration above.

Please note this two part series takes place on the following dates and times.

Part 1: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM ET

Part 2: Wednesday, October 12, 2022  5:00 PM – 6:30 PM ET

  1. Identify signs and symptoms of serious knee injuries.
  2. Discuss the physical examination findings of pediatric patients with acute knee injuries.
  3. Develop a simple organized approach to the knee radiograph.
  4. Recognize characteristic fractures and radiographic features that have a high association with a torn ACL.
  5. Recognize the natural history of partial and complete ACL tears in pediatric and adolescent patients.
  6. Describe indications for non-surgical management of ACL tears.
  7. Summarize principles of ACL repair and reconstruction surgery in pediatric and adolescent patients, including management of common associated injuries.
  8. Discuss growth-related and biomechanical considerations in ACL reconstruction.
  9. Describe the importance of pre-operative rehabilitation.
  10. Identify at least two patient-reported outcome measures to utilize in patients with ACL tears.
  11. Describe the rehabilitation process for patients following ACL reconstruction.
  12. Identify at least four objective tests for return-to-sport evaluation.
  13. Identify potential developmental issues of relevance in experiencing ACL surgery and rehabilitation.
