Overview

Dizziness and balance impairment are common  in children and adolescents, but most providers are unfamiliar with how to manage these complaints in the pediatric population. This course will train providers to effectively evaluate and manage children with vestibular disorders.

Course Format

The course will be held at Boston Children’s Hospital Waltham on Monday, May 8 and Tuesday, May 9, 2023 immediately following the weekend of the Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM) in Boston.

A virtual option is available for those who are unable to attend in-person. We have also added a number of new topics, including vision therapy, genetics, surgery, school accommodations, and a panel discussion on setting up a new pediatric vestibular program.

Presentations will be recorded and available on-demand for all paid attendees for one month after the conference.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course:
  1. Providers will be able to demonstrate effective history-taking and physical examination skills for children with dizziness and balance impairment.
  2. Providers will be able to describe the work-up of children and adolescents presenting with dizziness.
  3. Providers will be able to identify the most common causes of dizziness and balance impairment in pediatric patients.
  4. Providers will be able to describe treatment strategies for pediatric patients with dizziness.
  5. Audiologists will be able to effectively administer vestibular testing to pediatric patients.
  6. Physical and occupational therapists will be able to administer vestibular rehabilitation to children and adolescents presenting with a variety of vestibular conditions.
