Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt 1/18/2024

This course will be offered virtually via Zoom.?Lean Six Sigma is a combination of two proven continuous improvement methods, Lean and Six Sigma.  Lean Six Sigma focuses on creating value for customers by improving efficiency, safety and quality, while reducing waste and variation. 
 
Building upon the tools covered in the White Belt class, participants learn how to use a proven five-step methodology, called DMAIC.  The DMAIC methodology provides a guide for teams to follow for process improvement.  Specific tools and topics are covered for each of the five steps and participants are given the opportunity to practice in small groups. 

• Yellow Belt is led by real world practitioners, giving participants insight on how to apply these tools in their own job.? 
• The day is meant to be interactive throughout, with small group exercises, class discussions, video examples and active learning opportunities.

Class begins at 8:30am and concludes by 5:00pm, with time for lunch mid-day and breaks throughout the day. 

1. Describe the concept of involving everyone in continuous improvement
2. Explain the concept of leadership as part of everyone’s life
3. Review the basic tenets of Lean Six Sigma
4. Introduce the concept of Deming’s PDSA cycle
5. Define the meaning of a “process”
6. Explain the five-step continuous improvement methodology, DMAIC
7. Develop project goals and scope
8. Understand the use of the A3 template
9. Identify customer, operational and non-value added activities
10. Be able to recognize a well-written operational definition
11. Describe the 5 Why’s tool
12. Understand basic statistical concepts including the mean and standard deviation
13. Create a Pareto Chart
14. Use a creative thinking to develop improvement ideas
15. Explain Kanban concepts
16. Explore the use of visual management concepts
17. Describe the use of a run chart
