Overview

On May 17, 2019, the Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center at Boston Children’s Hospital will kick off its first continuing medical education (CME) course . Honored guests and national experts from Boston Children’s will present the latest concepts in the assessment, management and treatment of complex esophageal, airway and other complex associated conditions.

This two-day course will address complex esophageal anomalies such as long-gap esophageal atresia, esophageal strictures, recurrent tracheoesophageal fistulas and caustic ingestions. Attendees will also learn about the newest treatment approaches for tracheomalacia, vascular rings and laryngeal clefts, as well as minimally invasive and robotic surgical procedures.

The interactive learning format of the course will engage attendees through lectures, panel discussions, case presentations, and Q & A sessions. This program aims to demonstrate a systems approach to complex patient care. Attendees will enhance their ability to make a surgical diagnosis, improve their initial screening process and increase their knowledge of when to refer to a specialist.

About the Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center

Boston Children’s Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center is dedicated to the care of infants, children and young adults with complex esophageal and airway problems. For our team, these very rare conditions are not rare at all. Our researchers and clinicians have published papers on a wide variety of subjects, including the surgical treatment of long-gap esophageal atresia and severe tracheomalacia, minimally invasive procedures for esophageal strictures and more. Since 2010, our clinicians have cared for more than 600 patients, making us the most experienced institution in the world when it comes to treating these complex conditions. Our goal is to help every child achieve a healthy esophagus and airway.
