Overview

Cardiology Updates for Primary Care Providers  

Primary care providers are at the frontline of pediatric health care. As the first point of contact for both common and atypical pediatric complaints, it is crucial that primary care providers are equipped with the up-to-date research, skills and knowledge they need to properly diagnose and treat patients from every end of the health spectrum.   

The Pediatric Cardiology Symposium is designed to provide general practitioners with the latest in pediatric cardiology, as relevant to their daily practice. The full-day course will present the latest updates in the diagnosis, management and treatment of cardiac patients. Attendees will leave this course with the practical knowledge and tools they need to seamlessly incorporate their findings into their practice.   

The goal of this course is to bridge the gap between primary care and cardiology by delivering relevant and timely educational content from the perspective of the cardiologist directly to the primary care provider. 

Experts from the renowned Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School will cover a broad range of topics including:

> cyanotic newborns & the new pulse oximetry screening
> arrhythmias 101 
> Kawasaki Disease updates 
> inherited cardiac disease & sudden cardiac death in children
> lipid assessment & management and more

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. recognize and differentiate cyanotic disease in the newborn and be educated on the use and pitfalls of pulse oximetry screening
  2. identify physiologic changes in children with congenital heart disease
  3. manage the child with heart failure from a primary care perspective
  4. differentiate causes of chest pain and recognize potential cardiac signs
  5. determine important features of palpitations, dizziness and syncope and management strategies from the perspective of the cardiologist
  6. identify benign and serious arrhythmias and learn first steps in managing them
  7. identify causes and gain perspective on pediatric sudden cardiac death
  8. describe the strengths and challenges of our patients with congenital heart disease in the current treatment era

Location Details & Event Parking

Situated in the heart of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School is located at 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston, MA 02115.

The symposium will take place on the third floor Rotunda of the Martin Center.

Registration and Refunds 

Registration by credit card can be made by clicking the register button above. Registration by check (draft on a United States bank): please make payable to Boston Children’s Hospital and contact CME Department at cmedepartment@childrens.harvard.edu to discuss payment. Telephone or fax registration is not accepted. Registration with cash payment is not permitted.

Upon receipt of your paid registration, an email confirmation from the Boston Children’s office will be sent to you. Be sure to include an email address that you check frequently. Your email address is used for critical information, including registration confirmation, evaluation and certificate.

Fifty-percent (50%) refunds will be issued for all cancellations received prior to the start of the course. Refund requests must be received by postal mail, email or telephone. “No shows” are subject to the full course fee, and no refunds will be issued once the conference has started.

In support of improving patient care, Boston Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians

Boston Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of  5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.
