Overview

Cardiology Updates for Primary Care Providers  

The Pediatric Cardiology Symposium is designed to provide primary care clinicians with the latest in pediatric cardiology as relevant to their daily practice. The full-day course will present current practice in the diagnosis, management and treatment of cardiac patients.  Attendees will leave this course with the practical knowledge and tools they need to seamlessly incorporate their findings into their practice.   

The goal of this course is to bridge the gap between primary care and cardiology by providing primary care clinicians with relevant and timely educational content including, outpatient management of common congenital cardiac lesions, inherited cardiac disorders, acquired heart disease, rhythm abnormalities and more, from the perspective of the cardiologist. 

Interactive lectures and Q&A session will be led by experts from the renowned Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and will cover a broad range of topics including:
  • Neurodevelopment in Congenital Heart Disease
  • Cyanotic Newborns and the New Pulse Oximetry Screening
  • Arrhythmias 101: What You Need to Know  
  • Inherited Cardiac Disease & Sudden Cardiac Death inChildren
  • Lipid Assessment & Management and more

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  1. Recognize cyanotic disease in the newborn and understand the utility and pitfalls of pulse oximetry screening.
  2. Recognize and respond to physiologically evolving congenital heart disease, arrhythmias and post-interventional issues.
  3. Differentiate between common pediatric complaints that rarely signify important heart disease and true cardiac pathology.
  4. Manage acquired heart disease in the pediatric setting.
  5. Recognize common neurodevelopmental struggles children with congenital heart disease face.
  6. Recognize common and benign rhythm abnormalities, and more malignant rhythms and red flags.

Registration by check (draft on a United States bank): please make payable to Boston Children’s Hospital and contact CME Department at cmedepartment@childrens.harvard.edu to discuss payment. Telephone or fax registration is not accepted. Registration with cash payment is not permitted. Upon receipt of your paid registration, an email confirmation from the Boston Children’s office will be sent to you. Be sure to include an email address that you check frequently. Your email address is used for critical information, including registration confirmation, evaluation and certificate.

Fifty-percent (50%) refunds will be issued for all cancellations received prior to the start of the course. Refund requests must be received by postal mail, email or telephone. “No shows” are subject to the full course fee, and no refunds will be issued once the conference has started.

In support of improving patient care, Boston Children's Hospital is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.

Physicians
Boston Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

AAPA accepts AMA category 1 credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.

Nurses
Boston Children’s Hospital designates this activity for 5 contact hours for nurses. Nurses should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
