Overview
This comprehensive and interactive three-day course provides interdisciplinary instructional training in pediatric simulation and debriefing for novice through expert faculty and covers major aspects of hospital-based and in-situ/point-of-care high-fidelity pediatric simulation.

It builds from the ground up beginning with practical aspects of adult learning theory applied to simulation-based education in order to provide a framework for simulation as a robust teaching tool. All material presented on adult learning theory is derived from leaders in the field including David Kolb, Malcolm Knowles and Donald Schon. It provides participants with an introduction to Crisis Resource Management and teamwork among interdisciplinary teams modeled after the aviation industry’s Crew Resource Management.
Objectives
  1. Discuss how simulation is incorporated into healthcare as a teaching methodology
  2. Discuss the current Zone Curriculum process used in SIMPeds as mechanisms to teach skills, algorithms and team training
  3. Discuss Kolb's learning theory in relation to adult learning and the simulation teaching cycle
  4. Describe the five elements of Crisis Resource Management and how they pertain to simulation team training
  5. Describe the steps to structuring a debriefing
  6. Design and run a simulation scenario as part of a team
