Date & Location
Thursday, April 27, 2023, 8:00 AM - Friday, April 28, 2023, 4:00 PM, Boston,

Overview

The Sport-Related Concussion Conference at Boston Children’s Hospital will return in a hybrid format for its 18th year on April 27-28, 2023.

With such high prevalence of sport-related concussion (SRC) in the pediatric population, it is crucial to comprehend this injury in detail, allowing care teams to make informed decisions that are in the patient’s best interests. In this course, we will focus on the science and clinical management of SRC, with a particular emphasis on novel, and promising research.

Topics will include initial clinical evaluation, biomechanics of injury, acute treatment, and recommendations on guiding patients back to school and sports. Additionally, a practical lecture series will focus on sub-specialty treatment geared towards those who work with brain-injured patients in any capacity, including physical therapists, nurses, athletic trainers, coaches, and other providers.

Course Format

This year's conference will be a hybrid model. The first-day in-person location will be at Merck Research Laboratories*, 33 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston, MA 02115, and the second day will be virtual. Attendees will have the option of attending both days virtually as an alternative.

This course will include didactic lectures and Q&A. This course will be engaging and interactive, helping our audience increase knowledge and foster the skills to diagnose, treat, and manage the full spectrum of sport-related concussions.

*The Merck Research Laboratories does not have Wi-Fi available for attendees. Please plan accordingly.

Please note that the schedule is not finalized, and is subject to change.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss Vestibular and Ocular changes that occur with concussion as well as management.
  2. Know key management strategies for dealing with lingering symptoms of concussion and helping children manage these while returning to school and sports.
  3. Discuss care of the non-traditional athlete with a disability, alternative care settings, and how to adapt care models to meet varied needs.
