About Dr. Shamberger

Dr. Robert Shamberger is a native Missourian and a proud alumnus of the University of Missouri, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, National Institute of Health, and Boston Children's Hospital. Aside from a two-year stint at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, for research training, he has called Boston home for five decades, where he (and his wife -- Kathy) raised his three children and dozens of fellows, residents, and medical students. He was Chair of the Department of Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital for nearly eighteen years after being 'just' a key member for a similar tenure. During his nearly two decades as leader, he nurtured a five-fold department expansion while furthering its reputation, character, and status as the beacon of clinical innovation, research excellence, and teaching prowess into Pediatric Surgery's second century of existence. Join us in the 19th-course addition and 2nd-year honorary rebranding as Shamberger's Frontiers in Pediatric Surgery.
