4th Annual Cardiac Fitness Symposium for Congenital Heart Disease: Innovative Concepts in Aerobic Training and Assessments

Please join us for the fourth annual "Cardiac Fitness Symposium for Congenital Heart Disease: Innovative Concepts in Aerobic Training and Assessments" This interactive course will address gaps in knowledge regarding aerobic training and assessments in Congenital Heart Disease. Live facilitated workshops will be utilized to develop aerobic exercise training plans and explore innovations in aerobic exercise training and delivery models. 

Course Format

This year's conference will occur on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and will be in-person in Boston, with the option to join virtually instead.

Our in-person option will be held at the Center for Life Science Building at Boston Children's Hospital. This course will include large group discussions and smaller group workshops. Tasty local lunch and snacks will be provided to our on-site participants. Please come in casual/athletic attire for the symposium.

1. Understand the aerobic exercise system, response to training, and risk and benefits in patients with congenital heart disease.
2. Understand and discuss the aerobic training principles (FITT-VP) and goals for training in patients with congenital heart disease.
3. Compare and contrast the different exercise intensity training zones and types of training (MICT vs HIIT) for different structural and hemodynamic classifications.
4. Develop aerobic exercise training programs (case study approach).
5. Discuss the various assessment methods available/used to measure “aerobic capacity”.
6. Examine innovative ways to deliver safe, effective and feasible aerobic exercise programs to patients with congenital heart disease (home programs, hybrid, in person, virtual).
