Overview

The Gymnastics Medicine 5th Annual Symposium will feature expert sports medicine providers in the field of Gymnastics Medicine (a subspecialty of Sports Medicine). Gymnastics Medicine, is a new subspecialty of sports medicine/orthopedics, and provides diagnosis, prevention, knowledge and education around gymnastics specific injuries and prevention. 

Learn from the leading gymnastics medicine experts about gymnastics specific diagnoses, injuries, prevention, nutrition, mental health, and education around gymnastics injuries and prevention.  

Course Format

Day 1, October 14, 2023 MEDICAL PROVIDER focus:

This session will focus on medical providers. We will review the most common gymnastics specific diagnoses, demonstrate and perform gymnastics specific physical therapy exercises, explain fueling and nutritional needs specifically for gymnasts, understand the management and onsite evaluation for gymnastics competition medical coverage, review the unique needs of female athletes, feature surgical interventions that commonly occur for gymnasts, explain return to gymnastics protocols, and much more!

Day 2, October 15, 2023 GYMNAST, PARENT, COACH focus

This session will focus on gymnasts, parents, and coaches. We will review common gymnastics injuries, how to create a “Gymnastics Medicine/Sports Medicine Team,” show injury prevention exercises, give tips and tricks on nutrition, explain how to handle “mental blocks,” review common reasons injuries occur, and more!

Objectives

Objectives day 1: Medical providers 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be better able to: 

  1. Understand gymnastics specific diagnoses and prevention.
  2. Explain the fueling and nutrition needs for gymnasts.
  3. Understand mental health concerns of gymnasts.
  4. Demonstrate and perform gymnastics specific physical therapy exercises.
  5. Understand the management and onsite evaluation for gymnastics competition medical coverage.
  6. Explain the considerations of a female athlete and the signs and symptoms of RED-S.
  7. Review over surgical considerations for gymnastics specific injuries.

Objectives day 2: Gymnasts, Parents, Coaches, and other 

Upon completion of this symposium, participants will be better able to: 

  1. Understand gymnastics specific injuries and prevention 
  2. Explain nutrition and hydration needs for gymnasts.
  3. Understand how to overcome mental blocks in gymnastics.
  4. Demonstrate and perform gymnastics specific injury prevention exercises

 1. Medical provider IN PERSON ONLY: 9 am-5:30 pm Lunch will be provided, 11 hours of continuing education credits (LIMITED to the first 50 people) 
    •   Physician: $200 
    •   Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Physical Therapists: $175 
    •   Athletic Trainers, Sports Nutritionists, Mental Health Providers, and other: $150 
    •   Students: $100 
 Can attend both Saturday and Sunday 
 2. Medical Provider HYBRID: 9 am-1 pm and in person 2:00 pm-5:30 pm: 11 hours of continuing education credits (LIMITED to the first 100 people)
    •   Physician: $175 
    •   Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Physical Therapists: $150 
    •   Athletic Trainers, Sports Nutritionists, Mental Health Providers, and other: $125 
    •   Students: $75 
 Can attend both Saturday and Sunday 
 3. Medical provider VIRTUAL ONLY: Saturday, 10/14/2023, 9 am-1 pm 4 hours of continuing education credits (unlimited sign-ups) 
    •   Physician: $150
    •   Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Physical Therapists: $100
    •   Athletic Trainers, Sports Nutritionists, Mental Health Providers, and other: $75
    •   Students: $50 
 Can attend Saturday morning virtual session 9am-1pm only
 4. Non-Medical Provider SUNDAY: in person only (150 people) 
    •   Adult: $10 per person
    •   Under 18 years old: $5 per person

Please Note

  • The afternoon session will be held in-person only in the gymnasium at the The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention, Boston Children's Waltham. This is a limit of 100 registrants.
  • Those who register for virtual ONLY will only have the morning session available to them via Zoom (Saturday, 10/14/2023, 9am-1pm) .
  • The in-person afternoon sessions will be available to those who registered for in-person or the hybrid option, with the in-person portion taking place in the afternoon.
  • If, for any reason, you are unable to attend any of the in-person sessions, please let the Continuing Educational Department know to make the spot available for someone else. 

Pre-registration is required. Once you have registered you will receive a confirmation email with a registration receipt. Online Course Cancellation, Transfer & Refund Policy
Due to the propriety materials and content of each course, online virtual courses orders are NOT eligible for refund, cancellation or transfer.

Other Terms and Conditions:
Online training courses may NOT be transferred to another participant. Participants have one month to access any virtual online course content. Participants have until the expiration date to access and complete any enduring material courses. Boston Children’s Hospital CE is not responsible for user technical difficulties including loss of internet, power outages, etc. 

Cancellation of Services
Although highly unlikely, in case an event is canceled or postponed, Boson Children’s can provide a full refund or offer a credit towards future events to those who have already registered.

Boston Children’s Hospital has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME
credits for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 11.00 AAPA Category 1

Athletic Trainer
